History of Abbey United
Abbey United have went from strength to strength since re-forming in 2021, with 2025 being our biggest year yet! With underage teams bringing league success with impressive unbeaten league titles from u15s, u13s and u12s boys team alongside cup success from the u14s boys and the girls were as equally impressive with both u12s and u13s girls team reaching cup finals. It truly has been impressive to see how far all the boys and girls have came in such a short period with all our underage teams challenging at the top of their respective leagues. Success wasn't limited to our youth team. Our newly formed men's team, featuring some familiar faces from the five-time Super League winning team, picked up right where they left off! They achieved a remarkable First Division Cup and League double, earning promotion to the Sligo Leitrim Premier Division. They've started the new season with an equally impressive unbeaten run. Last year also saw the formation of the Abbey United women's team, which has generated huge interest. This team provides a crucial pathway for all girls in the area to progress from underage to senior football, and we look forward to them matching the men's success in the years to come.

On Friday the 16th of September, it was an historic day for Abbey United F.C as we fielded our first ever girls’ team. This was only the first step that would lead to multiple girls team and women's team in the following years. As the academy filled the underage groups as team progress into the next, we also had the addition of an Abbey United u17's team for the 2022/23 season with players from this squad later joining into the men's team a couple of years later.

Abbey United are back with the introduction of an underage Academy. Our underage teams started with u12s & u13s Boys teams entering Sligo / Leitrim Youth League.
